Demo only takes a day. Rebuilding takes weeks or months. If you have ever watched any kind of home remodeling show, you know this to be true. Depending on the size of the project, just a couple or people, or perhaps a whole crew of people can get into a house and demolish nearly everything in just a few days at most, whereas the rebuilding and remodeling takes weeks or months to be completed. So it is with our faith.
Maybe you have “deconstructed” your faith, questioning and rethinking all that you once held dear. But if you are like many people, while there were plenty of people around to help you “demo” and “tear down” your faith, now you find yourself all alone, trying to rebuild or “remodel” your faith for yourself. In truth, it is reckless and irresponsible to tear down someone’s faith without providing them tools, resources, and time to rebuild.
Brian D. McLaren—author, speaker, activist, public theologian, and passionate advocate for “a new kind of Christianity”—joins the pod to talk about his new book Faith After Doubt: Why Your Beliefs Stopped Working and What to Do About It. We talk about the book, the disruption taking place with culture and Christianity, and what future church might look like.
If you have recently deconstructed or are currently in the process, Brian seeks to come alongside of you and help you through the challenging and tedious process of “putting it all back together,” helping you rebuild and remodel a faith that may look nothing like before. Listen to the pod, then get a copy of his book.
Don’t waste another day sorting through the rubble on your own. You are not alone in this. This process is never easy, but with the help of Brian and others, your newly remodeled faith is within reach.
