Liberty in Christ

(Read the previous devotion here.)

1 Corinthians 6

“’All things are lawful for me,’ but not all things are beneficial. ‘All things are lawful for me,’ but I will not be dominated by anything. ‘Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food,’ and God will destroy both one and the other.

1 Corinthians 6:12

In this chapter, Apostle Paul apparently references a slogan of the Corinthians (“everything is permissible for me,” or lawful) in order to address several admonitions dealing with how a believer’s freedom is limited by what is helpful or profitable to the Lord. Although there is liberty in Christ, this liberty should not be used if it causes someone else to become enslaved by something.

Sometimes we believe that because we have a God that loves us very, very much and gave His life for us, we can abuse that freedom with our bodies and expression. This chapter in First Corinthians reminds us that we need to take care of our bodies and spirits, obeying God and taking care of each other. This is true in the pandemic and in other situations, too.

Prayer:

Dear Lord, please help us to love one another the way you love us. We are going to get through this season of life triumphant because You are with us. The devil can’t beat us. We adore and exalt your name, Jesus. Amen.
